Christmas Crisis

This Christmas season, Angels Community Outreach is facing a crisis unlike any we’ve seen before. As of this morning (11/15), over 5,000 children have been registered by their families for Christmas assistance. Each time I check my email, new names, new stories, and new pleas for help pour in. Each one is a child who dreams of waking up on Christmas morning to find gifts under the tree.

The reality is heartbreaking: we can’t help them all, but I am determined to do everything in my power to make sure as many children as possible experience the joy of Christmas morning.

Today, with an aching heart, I begin the impossible task of selecting 500 children who need our help the most.

As I read through these applications, the stories weigh heavily on my soul.

 

•There is a young boy who lost both his parents in a tragic accident and now lives with his elderly grandmother, who struggles just to keep the lights on.

•A little girl whose father was murdered now finds comfort in the small things her mother tries to provide, though she can barely make ends meet.

•One teen boy, brave and resilient, cares for his siblings while their mom battles an illness.

•Another little boy lost his mother to a sudden illness and now lives with his aunt who stretches every dollar just to keep food on the table.

•A mom and her children who fled a domestic violence situation start all over and are living in an empty apartment because it took every penny she had to get into the apartment.

These are not just names on paper—they are children with hopes, wishes, and the simple dream of waking up on Christmas morning to find gifts under the Christmas tree.
