Every Child Deserves a Pair of New Sneakers
I know this is long but Please take a moment to READ & SHARE. I AM ON A MISSION! I want children in need to feel AWESOME and CONFIDENT when they walk into the classroom the first day of school. I have shared this story before but feel it is important to share again.
When I was in 4th grade I remember my classmate Larry M. coming to school with a new pair of blue sneakers with bright yellow accents (Adidas Marathon 80 Trainers). Everyone liked them, but I was in LOVE with them. Now don’t laugh… but I just knew in my head that those sneakers made him run fast and I needed a pair! I ran home to tell my mom all about these absolutely fabulous “make you run fast” sneakers. I remember vividly my Mother, who was wonderful and who probably did without for me, taking me to JCPenney’s to pick them out. I was super excited to get fitted for the sneakers and even more ecstatic when they were placed on my foot. I slowly walked with them on my feet till I got to the aisle. Yep all clear…. I ran as fast as I could up and down that aisle! FASTEST SNEAKER EVER! My smile was huge! I was so excited to go to school the next morning, sporting my new Blue FAST Sneakers! All my classmates ooh’ed and ahh’ed over my shoes. I felt so awesome! And to this day I still remember how I felt.
Will YOU help me?
How many pairs of shoes do you own? How many shoes are lined up in your closet? You get up each morning and you choose what pair of sneakers/shoes to place on your feet for the day. It is something we all take for granted. I am ashamed to tell you how many pairs of shoes are in my closet. Children/teens right in our area do not have the luxury of owning several pairs of shoes. Many own only one pair and often that pair is worn and does not fit properly. I am on a mission to make sure that every child/teen attending our Back to School Event gets to pick out a pair of new sneakers. Shoes are one of the most visible signs of poverty. For a child in need, the simple gift of new sneakers can give a child/teen such self-esteem. These children/teens want to be just like their peers but often suffer ridicule over a pair of shoes.
YOU can help me make a difference for a child in need.
We are asking for shoe sponsors. We have a few hundred kids coming to our event.
